Stress & Anxiety

Stress is the reaction of the nervous system to a threat, or perceived threat. In the event of a physical attack, the nervous system recognises the danger and releases adrenaline into the bloodstream, to assist in either fighting off the attacker or running away. This is known as the "fight or flight" response. Once the threat subsides, the system returns to normal because the adrenaline has been used either fighting or running.

The everyday stresses that are now part of modern living are, of course, rarely life threatening, so it can be much more difficult for the body to release the adrenaline. If an appropriate outlet can't be found, the unused adrenaline stays in the nervous system and has a detrimental effect on the body. This can lead to serious health problems.

The key is to identify the source, and then relieve the stress with deep relaxation induced through hypnosis. We can learn new, positive responses to the stress triggers, because it isn't the situations themselves that cause us stress, it's our reaction to them.

If you are suffering with mild anxiety that is related to a specific upcoming event, e.g. an examination or an operation, then hypnotherapy will enable you to reduce your worry or anxiety and to feel more in control, in 1-2 sessions.

It will provide you with a greater sense of self; it will boost self-confidence and self-esteem; it will help you build on your self-belief and you will have a strong visual image of yourself being calm and self-assured in your upcoming event.

An added bonus is that hypnosis is wonderfully relaxing and reduces stress levels.

If longer term anxiety is having a limiting effect upon your life or you are suffering from panic attacks. Or perhaps you would like to remove and resolve all future issues in relation to your anxiety? In these circumstances it is likely that you would benefit most from a course of hypnotherapy to identify the root of your anxiety, and then work on these issues using suggestion, visualisation and imagery.
